11 is the day Roger de La Fresnaye was born. He was one of the brightest cubist painters with his own distinct vision.
His most famous work is “The Conquest of the Air” (1913), which depicts himself and his brother outdoors with a balloon in the background. It is a part of the New York Museum of Modern Art collection.
Over the 40 years, he created colorful works of geometric forms, presenting large-scale paintings of figures, images of war, landscapes and still-lives.
During the World War I he was discharged from the French army and died before he could paint his probably most brilliant pictures.
